Read a script
The script viewer renders your screenplay in proper screenplay format and lets you navigate it, switch view modes, and toggle on-page elements. This article covers reading and moving through a script; revision switching, comparing, comments, and continuity each have their own guide.
Before you start
- A project, episode, and revision are selected in the top bar. If the project has no script yet, upload one first.
Layout of the script viewer
The screenplay fills the page. Floating control cards sit over it:
- Control panel — top right. Holds Lock & Share (Admin only), Translate with a language switcher, View, and Download.
- Scene navigator — bottom left. Step through the script and jump to a scene or page.
- Continuity warnings — bottom right. Shows the warning count and opens the continuity popover.
The script body renders with scene headings (slug lines like INT. OFFICE - DAY), action paragraphs, dialogue (character name above the lines, with optional parenthetical), and right-aligned transitions like CUT TO:. The slug line names the Set — the in-story place from the script.

Switch the view mode
To change how pages lay out, open View in the control panel and choose a mode:

| Continuous | The whole script as one scrollable document. |
| Page | One page at a time, matching the physical page layout. |
| Scene per page | One scene per page, with a break between scenes. |
The View menu (the Preview options menu) also holds Full screen, zoom controls, and the on-page overlays below.
Toggle on-page overlays
The View menu lists overlays you can turn on or off under Overlays:

| Revision overlay | Tints the page to compare the current revision against another (pick the base revision in the control panel). |
| Comments | Opens the comments panel. See Comment on scenes. |
| Title page | Shows or hides the screenplay’s title page. |
| Header | Shows the page header. Available in Page and Scene per page views only; otherwise labeled Header (Page view only). |
| Footer | Shows the page footer. Page views only. |
| Page numbers | Shows page numbers. Page views only. |
| Page eighths | Shows the eighths-of-a-page markers. Page views only. |
Navigate the script
Use the scene navigator at the bottom left:
- Select the left or right chevron to move to the previous or next scene or page.
- Select the N of total counter to type a scene number or page number and jump straight to it.
- Open the Scenes / Pages dropdown to choose whether the navigator steps by scene or by page.
You can also press [ (left bracket) for the previous scene or page and ] (right bracket) for the next.
Hiding a scene from the breakdown overview does not remove it from the script viewer. Hidden scenes remain in the script, PDF, and scene count.
Download a PDF
To save the current revision as a formatted screenplay PDF, select Download in the control panel. SceneItAll generates the PDF and downloads it. The PDF reflects your script settings — page size, margins, font, numbering, and header or footer lines.
Translate the script
To read the script in another language, use the Translate row in the control panel:
- The language switcher beside Translate swaps the viewer between Original and any language already translated.
- Select Translate to open the translation dialog and request a new language. Translation is an AI feature and uses credits — see Translation.
