Create and manage scenarios

A scenario is a named version of your schedule. Create several to explore alternative shooting orders — for example, a main schedule, a weather-cover backup, or a revised order after a location change. This article covers creating, switching, renaming, duplicating, locking, and deleting scenarios from the Schedule header.

Before you start

  • A project and episode are selected. Scenarios belong to the episode and can be created before its first script is uploaded.

The scenario selector

The active scenario appears in a dropdown immediately to the right of the Schedule tabs. Its three-dot Scenario actions menu sits immediately to the right of the dropdown. The + Add menu stays with the page actions on the far right.

  • The selected scenario appears in purple. The Strip Board, Calendar, DOOD, and Compare views all reflect that scenario.
  • A locked scenario shows a lock icon in the selector.

To switch scenarios, open the dropdown and select the scenario you want. The board reloads for that scenario.

Create a scenario

To create a scenario, from the Schedule header:

  1. Open the + Add menu and choose Scenario. (On an empty board, use the Create scenario button instead.)
  2. In the Create Scenario dialog, type a Name.
  3. Choose Create.

The new scenario opens with no shoot days. If the episode already has a production-ready revision, its current scenes appear under Unscheduled. Add days next (see Add and edit shoot days), then drag scenes onto them.

Switch the active scenario

Open the scenario dropdown and select a scenario to make it active. Every schedule tab updates to the selected scenario, and the active scenario is also reflected in the page URL, so a deep link reopens the same one.

Rename a scenario

To rename a scenario:

  1. Select the three-dot menu (Scenario actions) immediately to the right of the scenario dropdown.
  2. Choose Rename.
  3. In the Rename Scenario dialog, edit the name and confirm.

Duplicate a scenario

Duplicating copies a scenario — including all its shoot days and strips — into a new scenario, so you can try a different order without disturbing the original.

To duplicate a scenario:

  1. Select the scenario you want to copy from the dropdown so it is active.
  2. Open the + Add menu and choose Duplicate scenario.
  3. In the Duplicate Scenario dialog, edit the Name (it defaults to the original name with (copy) appended).
  4. Choose Duplicate.

Every shoot day, strip, and banner is copied as-is. The copy belongs to the same episode and, like every scenario in that episode, automatically follows its latest production-ready screenplay details.

Lock or unlock a scenario

Locking a scenario makes it read-only so the schedule cannot change by accident. While a scenario is locked:

  • Drag and drop is disabled, and a banner at the top of the strip board reads This scenario is locked. Drag-and-drop is disabled.
  • The day, banner, strip, and change-marker actions are hidden, and Detect conflicts is disabled.
  • The scenario selector shows a lock icon.

To lock or unlock a scenario:

  1. Select the three-dot menu (Scenario actions) immediately to the right of the scenario dropdown.
  2. Choose Lock or Unlock.

To make changes to a locked scenario, unlock it first.

Delete a scenario

To delete a scenario:

  1. Select the three-dot menu (Scenario actions) immediately to the right of the scenario dropdown.
  2. Choose Delete.
  3. In the Delete Scenario dialog, confirm with Delete.

Deleting a scenario removes all of its shoot days, strips, change markers, and conflicts. This cannot be undone. The final scenario for an episode cannot be deleted; create another scenario first. If the active scenario is deleted, another scenario in the episode becomes active automatically.

Scenario actions

Scenario duplication is in the Schedule header’s + Add menu rather than the three-dot Scenario actions menu.

How scenarios fit the data flow

Each scenario reads the episode’s shared production scenes, breakdown, and cast data and arranges them into a shooting order. A scenario is never tied to the revision selected in Scripts. When a newer revision becomes production-ready, matching scenes retain their place, new scenes appear under Unscheduled in every scenario, and removed scenes remain only where already scheduled with a warning. Downstream reports such as the one-liner, call sheet, and Day Out of Days report take a snapshot of the active scenario when you refresh them, so re-snapshot a report to pull in your latest scenario changes.
