Add strips and banners
Strips and banners are the two kinds of rows on the strip board. A strip represents one scene; a banner marks a non-scene event such as a company move or a meal break. This article explains where strips come from, how to complete and edit them, and how to add and edit banners.
Before you start
- A scenario is active and has at least one shoot day (see Add and edit shoot days).
- The scenario is not locked when you need to edit or drag. A locked scenario hides the edit, delete, drag, and marquee actions, but you can still double-click a scene strip to inspect its scene.
Where strips come from
You do not create strips by hand. Every scene in the active scenario already has a strip. A strip that is not yet on a shoot day waits in the unscheduled pool on the right of the Strip Board tab (visible at 900px and wider).
To schedule a scene, drag its strip from the pool onto a shoot day. To unschedule it, drag it back to the pool. For the drag-and-drop tasks, see Schedule scenes on the strip board.

What a strip shows
Each strip is a compact row. Which fields appear depends on your display settings (see Display settings). From left to right a strip can show:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Color bar | A 4px bar colored from the scene’s INT/EXT and time of day. Hover it for a label of the combination. |
| Scene number | The scene’s number. |
| Unit badge | The production unit, when the scene belongs to one. |
| INT/EXT | Interior or exterior. |
| Time of day | DAY, NIGHT, DAWN, DUSK, or another time-of-day value. |
| Set | The scene’s linked Set (the in-story place named in the slugline), shown in uppercase. |
| Synopsis | The scene synopsis or description, in italic. |
| Page count | Scene length in eighths of a page. |
| Estimated duration | Estimated shooting time, for example ~1.5h. |
| Script day | The story day from the underlying scene, for example D3 or N3. It is independent from the Shoot Day that contains the strip. |
| Cast | Cast numbers in the scene, for example #1, #4. |
| Extras | Background and featured-extra counts, for example 4 bg. |
| Flags | Special-requirement badges and a conflict badge. |
| Time range | The strip’s estimated start–wrap, when set. |
The Set shown here is the linked Set entity, not a real-world Location. To learn how those two differ, see the glossary.
Strip statuses
A strip’s appearance reflects its status:
| Status | Appearance |
|---|---|
| Scheduled | Default. The strip is on a day but not yet shot. |
| Shooting | The strip is in progress. |
| Completed | Dimmed to 50% with a line through the scene number. |
| Omitted | A line through the scene number. |
| Held | The strip is held from the schedule. |
Mark a strip complete
Completing a strip records the actual times it was shot.
To mark a strip complete:
- Select the checkbox at the right end of the strip.
- In the Complete Scene dialog, set the Actual Start and Actual Wrap times. Both are required.
- Optionally enter the number of Setups and any Notes.
- Choose Mark Complete.
The strip switches to the Completed look. To revert it to Scheduled, clear the checkbox.
Edit or delete a strip
To edit or remove a strip, select its three-dot menu (Strip actions) at the right end of the row, then choose Edit or Delete:
- Edit opens the Edit Strip dialog, where you can change the strip’s Description, Page Count, and Unit. These edits stay on the strip and do not change the underlying scene.
- Delete removes the strip from the board after you confirm. The scene itself stays in your breakdown.
On desktop, double-click a scene strip to open its stable production scene directly in Breakdown. Breakdown shows the latest production-ready scene details while Schedule preserves the strip’s scenario placement. This works on locked scenarios because it is read-only navigation. It is unavailable in the phone companion layout. Banners do not open a scene.
Select scheduled strips with a marquee
On desktop, hold Shift and drag a rectangle across visible scheduled scene strips. Every scene strip touched by the rectangle joins the current selection; banners and change markers are ignored. You can then drag any selected strip to move the selected group with the existing bulk-move behavior. The marquee is disabled for locked scenarios and companion layouts.
On macOS, use either physical Shift key and begin the drag while Shift is held. If the browser or operating system captures a shortcut instead, release all modifier keys, select the SceneItAll window, and try again without Command or Option held.
Banners
A banner is a non-scene row you insert inside a shoot day to mark an event or transition. Banners sit inline with the strips and can be dragged to reorder.
Banner types
| Type | Use |
|---|---|
| Day break | A break point in the day. |
| Company move | The crew is relocating. |
| Mini move | A short on-lot move, distinct from a full company move. |
| Meal | A meal or lunch break. |
| Holiday | A holiday marker. |
| Note | A general scheduling note. |
| Travel | Travel between locations. |
| Weather | A weather-related note. |
| Safety meeting | A scheduled safety briefing. |
Each banner type has its own color; the meal banner is green and the company-move banner is amber, for example. The type also shows as an uppercase label on the banner row, so the color never carries meaning alone.
Add a banner
To add a banner to a day:
- Select the three-dot menu (Banner actions) on the day banner.
- Choose Add Banner.
- In the Add Banner dialog, type the Banner Text (required), pick a Type, and optionally set a Duration (min).
- Choose Add Banner.
The banner appears in the day’s row list. Drag it up or down to reposition it.
Edit or delete a banner
To edit or remove a banner, select its three-dot menu (Banner actions) on the banner row, then choose Edit or Delete. Editing opens the Edit Banner dialog with the same Banner Text, Type, and Duration (min) fields.
Display settings
Some strip fields always show; the rest you can turn on or off. The board saves your choices per project.
- Always shown: Scene Number, INT / EXT, and Day / Night / Dawn / Dusk.
- Toggleable: Set Name, Location, Synopsis, Page Count, Cast Numbers, Extras Count, Unit Badge, Special Flags, Script Day, Revision Color, and Estimated Duration.
To change which fields appear, open the schedule settings from Global Settings → Schedule.
