Read the Day Out of Days report

The Day Out of Days (DOOD) report is the industry-standard availability matrix — rows for each cast member or element, columns for each shooting day, and cells showing who works when. Producers and ADs use it to negotiate cast deals, manage holds, and plan around availability. This article covers opening the report, choosing an element type, reading the status codes, and exporting.

The DOOD is a live report: it always reflects current cast and schedule data, there is nothing to snapshot, and it has no variations. Cast, breakdown-element, shoot-day, strip-order, and production-unit changes refresh an open report automatically. See Snapshot reports versus live reports.

Scheduled Character work in the selected or active scenario also supplies each Cast member’s read-only first and last work day. Holds, travel, fittings, banners, and dateless schedule days do not create a work date by themselves.

Before you start

  • You have a scenario that is active or locked in the Schedule section, with cast and crew elements assigned to scenes. Without scheduled scenes and assigned elements you see “No DOOD data available — Schedule scenes and assign elements to generate the matrix.”

Open the report and choose an element type

  1. Open Reports and select the Day Out of Days card.
  2. In the Reports left rail, use the Element type selector to choose what the matrix covers: Characters, Extras, Combined, Props, Vehicles, Wardrobe, SFX, or Stunts. The matrix re-renders for that type without leaving the page.
  3. The matrix renders on A4 landscape paper. Rows are the cast or elements; columns are the shoot days; each cell shows the working status for that day. When there are only a few shoot days, the day and summary columns stretch across the page with roomy fixed-height rows. Wider matrices keep legible minimum-width columns and scroll horizontally in the preview; matrices with many rows paginate as usual.

Read the matrix

A cell with a value means the person or element is needed that day. The exact status follows the standard day-out-of-days shorthand:

CodeMeaning
SWStart Work — first work day
WWork
WFWork Finish — last work day
SWFStart Work Finish — a single-day engagement
HHold
TTravel
RRehearsal
FFitting only — not working that day
DDrop

A fitting on a working day never changes the work-status letter. A blank cell outside the engagement never implies Drop.

The side panel shows a total element count and a roll-up of work, hold, and travel days.

Export

Select Export PDF in the side panel to download a print-ready PDF of the matrix. Re-export whenever the schedule shifts — even small reorderings can change start, work, and finish dates that drive cast deals.

Where this fits

The DOOD report in Reports is the production-facing chart for cast deals and hold negotiation. A similar DOOD view lives in the Schedule section beside the strip board for working-schedule planning, and you can also export a DOOD from the Crew section. See Schedule DOOD and DOOD export.
