Getting Started

Create or join a project

Everything in SceneItAll lives inside a project — one project per production, whether a feature film, a TV series, or a short. Before you can upload a script or manage crew, you create a project or join one you were invited to. This guide covers both, plus switching between projects.

Before you start

  • You are signed in. See Create your account.
  • To create a project, you need no special access — any signed-in user can create one and becomes its owner.
  • To join an existing project, you need an invite link from that project’s owner or an admin. SceneItAll has no project code to type.

Create a project

When you have no projects yet, the app shows a welcome screen that reads Create a new project or join one you’ve been invited to. with a Create Project button. You can also start a new project at any time from the project selector in the top bar.

  1. On the welcome screen, choose Create Project. Or, from the project selector in the top bar (it shows the current project name, or Select Project when none is chosen), choose Create new project.
  2. In the Create Project dialog, fill in the fields:
    • Project name (required) — the name you see in the project selector.
    • Production name (optional) — the production’s display title, used in the script footer and on reports.
    • Type (required) — choose Feature Film, TV Series, or Short. Feature Film is selected by default.
    • Language (required) — the primary language of your script(s). English is selected by default. Select ? next to the field for what this controls.
  3. Choose Create.

The new project opens, and you become its owner with full control over its settings, members, and content. See Roles and permissions.

Start with a sample project

If you’d rather explore SceneItAll before bringing in your own script, the welcome screen also offers Start with a sample project. Choose it and SceneItAll creates a ready-to-explore project for you, pre-loaded with a short demo screenplay — Sintel — and already set up like a production that’s underway, so breakdown, schedule, and reports all have real data the moment you open it.

  1. On the welcome screen, choose Start with a sample project.
  2. Wait a moment while the project is created, the script is imported, and the sample content is set up.

The sample comes pre-filled with:

  • The opening scenes broken down — tagged with cast, props, wardrobe, set dressing, and effects, just as you’d do it yourself.
  • A cast list, with each actor linked to the character they play.
  • A first shooting day scheduled, with the opening scenes laid out as strips.
  • A call sheet for that day, ready to view in Reports.
  • A second scenario — a “Weather cover” alternative to the main shooting schedule — so you can switch between schedule versions and try comparing them straight away.

The sample opens just like any other project, and you become its owner. It is fully editable and entirely yours — change anything, try features, and delete it whenever you’re done (in Project Settings → Danger Zone). Nothing in it affects your other projects.

How project type affects the app

The Type you choose changes how the app organizes scripts:

  • TV Series turns on episode management. An episode selector appears in the top bar so you can switch episodes.
  • Feature Film and Short use a single, automatically created episode, and the episode selector stays hidden.

You can change the type later in project settings (see Change project settings).

How project language affects the app

The Language you choose controls the language of AI-generated text — breakdown element descriptions, scene summaries, and continuity notes (see AI features overview). It does not translate your script; quoted script text and character names are never changed. It is separate from the script translation feature, which translates scene content into a different language on demand, and from your own app display language (in your profile settings).

You can change the project language later in project settings (see Change project settings).

Joining is always link-based. An owner or admin generates a link, shares it with you, and you open it to join.

  1. Ask a project owner or admin to send you an invite link. (To create one, they open Invite in the top bar, pick a role and an expiry, and choose Generate Link.)
  2. Open the link in your browser. The link looks like https://app.sceneitall.pro/join/<token>.
  3. On the Join Project screen, you see the project name and the role you are being granted.
  4. If you are signed in, choose Join Project. If you are not, choose Sign up to join, complete sign-in, and you return to finish joining.

Once you join, the app opens to the project’s scripts, and the project appears in your project selector.

Switch between projects

If you belong to more than one project, switch at any time:

  1. Open the project selector in the top bar.
  2. In the list, choose the project you want.

The whole app reloads with that project’s scripts, episodes, crew, and schedule. Each project is fully isolated — nothing from one project is visible in another. To mark a project as your default, select the star next to it in the project list.

Change project settings

The owner and admins can edit a project from Project Settings, opened from the project selector or the settings cog.

  • General — edit the Name, Production name, Description, Logo, Type, Timezone, and Language, then Save.
  • Members — see who has access, change roles, and create invite links.
  • Danger Zone (owner only) — Transfer Ownership, Archive Project or Reactivate Project, and Delete Project.

For who can do what, see Roles and permissions.
